Inspired by the spring cherry blossoms, we planned our route to combine sightseeing with a “pilgrimage” to locations related to the Taiga drama “Hideyoshi Brothers,” including its exhibition hall. We stayed one night in Nara City after visiting Kofuku-ji and Todai-ji. The next day, we headed from Nara and the ruins of Yamato-Koriyama Castle to Shiga via the drama exhibition hall. After sightseeing at Hyakusaiji Temple, Tennei-ji Temple, and Hikone Castle’s Castle Road, we arrived at Kamenoi Hotel Hikone. We had requested dinner for 19:15 in advance. Since we arrived around 17:00, we were able to unpack first and then relax in the Onsen before dinner. There was a dinner menu at our table, and starting with the main Omi beef sukiyaki, many Shiga-produced ingredients and seasonings were used throughout. We truly felt the Hotel’s sincere commitment to “local production for local consumption.” The meal was essentially kaiseki-style cuisine, and my wife praised it as “very delicious.” I completely agreed. There was also a menu at breakfast, and the Hotel’s commitment to local sourcing never wavered—both of us were extremely satisfied with the flavors. My wife turned in early, so I enjoyed the late-night ramen on my own; the black tantan noodles were also excellent. This was our first stay at a Kamenoi Hotel—after previously making a Reservation in Beppu but being unable to stay due to illness—and it turned out to be a wonderful experience where we could feel just a touch of Kumahachi Aburaya’s spirit. The following day brought strong winds and boats from nearby Hikone Port to Chikubu Island were canceled; however, we still managed an enriching trip that covered everything from Nagahama Kita-Omi Taiga Drama Exhibition Hall to Daitsuu-ji Temple, Nagahama Castle Historical Museum, and Gi-to-Kizuna-kan (Righteousness & Bonds Museum). As a base on Lake Biwa’s eastern shore area (Koto), Kamenoi Hotel is wholeheartedly recommended.

We were completely satisfied with everything—the Room, the baths, and the meals. From the pleasant Shuttle Service driver, to the front desk staff, the baths were clean and relaxing, with wonderfully soft water, and the meals featured a menu showcasing local specialties. Perfectly paired with the famous local sake “Zaku”! The open, airy feel of the lobby and the 5th-floor terrace, the attentive care of the proprietress, and both experienced Japanese staff and younger international staff— everyone showed thoughtful hospitality at every key moment. It was a truly wonderful stay at Senpoukaku. We can’t wait to visit again!

The Shuttle Service from the station was very helpful. The staff greeted us properly, which left a great impression. We had to bring our bath towels to the bath, but that minor inconvenience was more than made up for by the excellent amenities and post-bath drinks. You can relax anywhere in the building wearing a yukata or loungewear. The free-flow drinks at dinner included a wide selection of wine, sake, and shochu, and it was my first time seeing a dedicated sake-warming station. Of course, I gratefully made use of it. The only disappointment was that, despite being in Beppu Onsen, there were not many types of baths. Still, the property was clean throughout and well maintained, so we were able to unwind at a leisurely pace. Thank you very much.

We were thrilled! From the large windows offering views of Kada Port to stylish chairs where you can relax while enjoying a big-screen TV—and most importantly—the private natural onsen bath spacious enough for two people made it an exceptional space promising ultimate relaxation.

I chose the plan with breakfast and dinner included. I don’t usually have many opportunities to drink alcohol, but there was a food pairing, so I decided to try it. Both the wine and sake paired wonderfully, and for the first time I truly felt how delicious and enjoyable pairing can be. The dishes were beautiful and delicious—we even talked afterward with my mother about how good everything was. Breakfast was also great: making dressing, trying mayonnaise with bread, and enjoying items like quiche and roast beef. The amenities were kept to a minimum to reduce plastic waste, and the Facility had nothing excessive—simple and comfortable. The tableware was consistently styled as well, using glass, wood, Shigaraki ware, and more—it was lovely. All of the staff were calm and kind, which made our stay very enjoyable. We stayed at the Family Lodge. It’s an older lodge, but it has an ocean view and was kept very clean, so we had a comfortable stay with no inconveniences. Highly recommended for anyone looking to refresh in nature. The lodge has a unit bath, and it seems you can also use the large public bath in the main building, so we’d like to try that next time.

I booked the Room-assigned Plan. It seems you provided a spacious Room, and the bathroom and toilet were separate. The amenities were well stocked, and there were plenty of chairs and a desk, so I didn’t feel anything was lacking during my stay. I’d love to stay with you again.
